Toyota (NYSE:TM) announced Thursday that the Japanese automaker’s North American segment has reached an agreement with Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) to adopt the electric vehicle giant’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) connection for its battery electric vehicles starting in 2025.

Toyota joins the likes of Ford (NYSE:F), General Motors (NYSE:GM), BMW (ETR:BMWG) and others in adopting the charging technology, granting their customers access to Tesla’s extensive supercharging network.

Starting from 2025, Toyota will integrate NACS ports into specific Toyota and Lexus BEVs, including their new, three-row, battery-electric Toyota SUV, which will be manufactured at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky.

Through Toyota and Lexus apps, customers will have access to an expansive charging infrastructure spanning across North America, incorporating over 84,000 charging points, including both level 2 and DC fast chargers.

Owners or lessees of relevant Toyota and Lexus vehicles equipped with the Combined Charging System (CCS) will have the option to acquire an adapter facilitating NACS charging, beginning in 2025.

Shares of TM are up 0.4% in aftermarket trading Thursday afternoon.
