Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) is said to be in the midst of acquiring Wiferion, a Germany-based electric vehicle (EV) wireless charging company. An acquisition that could pave the way for Tesla to introduce a wireless home charging solution in the future.

The German edition of Business Insider, citing an anonymous source, reports that Wiferion is set to transfer its business to Tesla International BV. The filing with the German Commercial Register indicates that Tesla International BV, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tesla Inc. based in the Netherlands, will assume ownership of Wiferion.

Wiferion, formerly known as Blue Inductive, is a German-based company specializing in wireless charging systems. Since its establishment in 2016, the company has focused on providing wireless charging solutions for various applications, including autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs), autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), forklifts, and collaborative robots (cobots). More recently, Wiferion released the etaLINK 1000, the latest and smallest edition of its line of robot charging systems, which is compact enough to be installed into a small AMR.

According to the commercial register, documents were filed on June 12 showing shareholder intentions to sell their stake in the company to Tesla International BV, the European subsidiary of the company.

In the United States, Wiferion operates through a global licensing agreement established last year with WiTricity. The agreement allows Wiferion access to WiTricity's portfolio, allowing the company to further develop its wireless charging capabilities for electrical industrial devices.

Wiferion, known for making chargers for electric industrial vehicles, could have technology applicable to Tesla's electric car and battery factories. Tesla recently hinted at a wireless home charger during its Investor Day.

Shares of TSLA are up 1.82% near end-of-day trading on Thursday.
