Stellantis NV (NYSE:STLA) has decided to recall over 354,000 Jeeps globally after it was found that incorrectly installed rear coil springs might fall off while driving.
The company says in documents posted Tuesday by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that the springs may have been installed incorrectly in production. They can detach from the vehicle while it's moving, increasing the risk of a crash and possibly creating a hazard for other drivers.
The recall covers certain 2022 and 2023 Grand Cherokee and 2021 to 2023 Grand Cherokee L SUVs.
According to company documents, Stellantis has acknowledged a total of 17 warranty claims, along with two customer assistance reports and two field reports, all of which are potentially linked to the issue at hand. However, up until May 25, no crashes or injuries resulting from this problem have been reported. A majority of the affected vehicles being recalled are located in North America.
Shares of STLA are up 2.65% in afternoon trading on Tuesday.
