The National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) announced on its website that the electric vehicle company Rivian Automotive (NASDAQ:RIVN) is recalling certain 2022 R1T and R1S vehicles as the front seat belt anchors may have been inadequately attached.

According to the safety recall report, “Rivian has determined that on certain R1T and R1S vehicles, the seat belt height adjuster bolt for the front driver and/or passenger seat may have been cross threaded during the vehicle manufacturing process. This condition may decrease the strength of the bolt joint causing inadequate attachment of the front seat belts during loading.”

The customer may experience a noticeable rattling noise from the height adjuster area if the seat belt anchorage assembly is not properly secured. The customer may also notice excessive movement in the assembly when adjusting the height of the seat belt.

Rivian will inspect the front seat belt assemblies and, as necessary, properly secure the bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 14, 2022.

The potentially affected vehicle production period began on January 28, 2022, when Rivian Automotive started to build vehicles with the suspect seat belt assembly anchorage installations and ended on August 8, 2022, when Rivian stopped building with the suspect seat belt assembly anchorage installations.

As of the date of the filing, Rivian is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue in any market.
