Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Warehousing and Gas & Water sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 3.96% to hit a new 6-months low.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Ricoh Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:7752), which rose 2.18% or 24.5 points to trade at 1146.5 at the close. Meanwhile, Sharp Corp. (TOKYO:6753) added 1.23% or 2.0 points to end at 164.0 and Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:6770) was up 1.06% or 35.0 points to 3335.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sapporo Holdings Ltd. (TOKYO:2501), which fell 9.33% or 47.0 points to trade at 457.0 at the close. Nippon Kayaku Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:4272) declined 8.02% or 102.0 points to end at 1170.0 and Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:5707) was down 7.45% or 24.0 points to 298.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1747 to 131.
Shares in Nippon Kayaku Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:4272) fell to 52-week lows; down 8.02% or 102.0 to 1170.0. Shares in Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:5707) fell to 52-week lows; down 7.45% or 24.0 to 298.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 31.83% to 47.01 a new 3-years high.
Crude oil for October delivery was up 1.22% or 0.47 to $38.70 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.86% or 0.36 to hit $43.05 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.48% or 5.50 to trade at $1148.10 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.53% to 119.04, while EUR/JPY rose 0.14% to 137.78.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.19% at 93.56.
