Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Mining and Insurance sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 2.32%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Maruha Nichiro Corp (T:1333), which rose 5.18% or 131.0 points to trade at 2659.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Yahoo Japan Corp. (T:4689) added 3.01% or 15.0 points to end at 514.0 and Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd. (T:1332) was up 1.14% or 7.0 points to 619.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (T:7003), which fell 5.65% or 10.0 points to trade at 167.0 at the close. Asahi Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5201) declined 5.30% or 35.0 points to end at 625.0 and NTN Corp. (T:6472) was down 5.00% or 19.0 points to 361.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1805 to 146 and 46 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 2.69% to 27.51.
Crude oil for July delivery was down 0.20% or 0.10 to $48.91 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $49.71 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.30% or 3.65 to trade at $1218.35 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.34% to 109.17, while EUR/JPY fell 0.25% to 122.24.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.12% at 95.31.
