Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Insurance, Transportation Equipment and Shipbuilding sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 1.18%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Showa Denko K.K. (T:4004), which rose 4.48% or 49.0 points to trade at 1142.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Taiheiyo Cement Corp. (T:5233) added 3.87% or 11.0 points to end at 295.5 and JFE Holdings, Inc. (T:5411) was up 2.70% or 40.0 points to 1523.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Terumo Corp. (T:4543), which fell 4.93% or 210.0 points to trade at 4050.0 at the close. Toyobo Co., Ltd. (T:3101) declined 4.71% or 8.0 points to end at 162.0 and Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (T:4519) was down 4.01% or 135.0 points to 3235.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1586 to 361 and 111 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 3.44% to 23.78.
Crude oil for October delivery was down 0.19% or 0.09 to $47.24 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.40% or 0.20 to hit $49.47 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.21% or 2.75 to trade at $1327.35 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.08% to 100.45, while EUR/JPY rose 0.06% to 113.52.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.14% at 94.55.
