Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Railway & Bus and Food sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.52%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which rose 9.79% or 29.4 points to trade at 329.6 at the close. Meanwhile, Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) added 3.92% or 17.0 points to end at 451.0 and JGC Corp. (T:1963) was up 3.77% or 65.0 points to 1788.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (T:5801), which fell 4.53% or 250.0 points to trade at 5270.0 at the close. Yaskawa Electric Corp. (T:6506) declined 4.01% or 101.0 points to end at 2416.0 and Advantest Corp. (T:6857) was down 3.33% or 72.0 points to 2087.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1653 to 1492 and 319 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 5.28% to 13.28 a new 5-year low.
Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.39% or 0.18 to $46.01 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 0.52% or 0.25 to hit $48.40 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.02% or 0.30 to trade at $1271.10 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.29% to 110.02, while EUR/JPY fell 0.08% to 123.40.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 97.10.
