Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Mining, Paper & Pulp and Glass sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 0.37%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which rose 4.91% or 13.6 points to trade at 290.4 at the close. Meanwhile, Pioneer Corp. (T:6773) added 4.84% or 12.0 points to end at 260.0 and Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (T:6703) was up 4.58% or 77.0 points to 1757.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were SUMCO Corp. (T:3436), which fell 5.48% or 87.0 points to trade at 1500.0 at the close. Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T:6976) declined 4.51% or 66.0 points to end at 1398.0 and Tosoh Corp. (T:4042) was down 3.31% or 28.0 points to 819.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1829 to 1197 and 335 ended unchanged.
Shares in Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (T:6703) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 4.58% or 77.0 to 1757.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.59% to 20.29.
Crude oil for February delivery was down 0.11% or 0.06 to $53.20 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March fell 0.23% or 0.13 to hit $56.33 a barrel, while the February Gold contract rose 1.17% or 13.60 to trade at $1178.90 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 1.17% to 115.88, while EUR/JPY fell 0.45% to 122.41.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.65% at 101.82.
