Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Transportation Equipment, Power and Paper & Pulp sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.11%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:9064), which rose 7.89% or 179.5 points to trade at 2454.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. (T:5002) added 4.11% or 45.0 points to end at 1141.0 and Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (T:7003) was up 3.87% or 7.0 points to 188.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which fell 4.71% or 10.6 points to trade at 214.6 at the close. Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) declined 2.68% or 17.0 points to end at 618.0 and Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043) was down 2.60% or 15.0 points to 562.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1628 to 1366 and 345 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.59% to 16.98 a new 52-week low.
Crude oil for April delivery was up 0.90% or 0.48 to $54.07 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in April rose 0.90% or 0.50 to hit $56.34 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract rose 0.32% or 3.95 to trade at $1237.25 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.03% to 113.28, while EUR/JPY fell 0.05% to 119.57.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 101.33.
