Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Fishery and Paper & Pulp sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.09%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nichirei Corp. (TOKYO:2871), which rose 6.96% or 50.0 points to trade at 768.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Tokyu Fudosan (TOKYO:3289) added 3.23% or 30.0 points to end at 960.0 and The Dai-ichi Life Insurance Co. (TOKYO:8750) was up 3.19% or 75.5 points to 2444.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:7735), which fell 2.33% or 19.0 points to trade at 798.0 at the close. Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co. (TOKYO:5706) declined 2.22% or 8.0 points to end at 353.0 and Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:5707) was down 2.08% or 9.0 points to 423.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1001 to 881.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 3.48% to 18.13.
Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.12% or 0.07 to $60.33 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $64.63 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.28% or 3.30 to trade at $1182.50 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.01% to 123.41, while EUR/JPY fell 0.35% to 138.51.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.20% at 95.43.
