Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Finance & Investment and Warehousing sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.07%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Kuraray Co., Ltd. (T:3405), which rose 8.30% or 104.0 points to trade at 1357.0 at the close. Meanwhile, NTN Corp. (T:6472) added 7.89% or 24.0 points to end at 328.0 and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (T:5713) was up 7.71% or 92.5 points to 1293.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. (T:5002), which fell 6.92% or 65.0 points to trade at 874.0 at the close. Nichirei Corp. (T:2871) declined 5.93% or 60.0 points to end at 952.0 and Meiji Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:2269) was down 5.68% or 580.0 points to 9640.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1221 to 738 and 98 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 4.84% to 23.58 a new 3-months low.
Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.20% or 0.08 to $40.91 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.05% or 0.02 to hit $43.08 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.64% or 8.75 to trade at $1355.95 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.37% to 101.62, while EUR/JPY rose 0.21% to 113.13.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.21% at 95.69.
