Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Pharmaceutical Industry, Fishery and Warehousing sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.77%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Takashimaya Co., Ltd. (T:8233), which rose 5.22% or 48.0 points to trade at 968.0 at the close. Meanwhile, J.Front Retailing Co., Ltd. (T:3086) added 4.70% or 68.0 points to end at 1514.0 and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (T:9107) was up 4.48% or 10.0 points to 233.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Sony Financial Holdings Inc. (T:8729), which fell 2.53% or 39.0 points to trade at 1500.0 at the close. Toshiba Corp. (T:6502) declined 1.30% or 2.7 points to end at 205.6 and Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5202) was down 1.25% or 1.0 points to 79.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1527 to 280 and 83 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 3.12% to 23.78.
Crude oil for May delivery was up 1.06% or 0.42 to $39.88 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in June rose 0.95% or 0.39 to hit $41.42 a barrel, while the June Gold contract fell 0.61% or 7.50 to trade at $1216.00 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.38% to 113.55, while EUR/JPY rose 0.33% to 126.75.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.15% at 96.31.
