Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Insurance, Shipbuilding and Rubber sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.76%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (T:9104), which rose 5.32% or 18.0 points to trade at 356.5 at the close. Meanwhile, Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T:6976) added 4.10% or 72.0 points to end at 1827.0 and Tosoh Corp. (T:4042) was up 3.48% or 41.0 points to 1219.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were KDDI Corp. (T:9433), which fell 2.69% or 80.5 points to trade at 2909.0 at the close. Toshiba Corp. (T:6502) declined 2.30% or 6.0 points to end at 255.2 and Dentsu Inc. (T:4324) was down 2.10% or 110.0 points to 5130.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2331 to 839 and 288 ended unchanged.
Shares in Tosoh Corp. (T:4042) rose to all time highs; rising 3.48% or 41.0 to 1219.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.55% to 16.18.
Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.09% or 0.04 to $44.19 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.09% or 0.04 to hit $46.67 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.20% or 2.41 to trade at $1207.29 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.25% to 114.20, while EUR/JPY rose 0.27% to 130.25.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 95.77.
