Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mining, Paper & Pulp and Food sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.69%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were The Japan Steel Works, Ltd. (T:5631), which rose 10.61% or 49.0 points to trade at 511.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Asahi Kasei Corp. (T:3407) added 6.91% or 53.2 points to end at 822.9 and SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) was up 5.96% or 48.0 points to 853.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735), which fell 9.03% or 111.5 points to trade at 1123.0 at the close. Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) declined 7.34% or 26.0 points to end at 328.0 and Mitsubishi Materials Corp. (T:5711) was down 5.10% or 14.5 points to 270.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1297 to 615 and 144 ended unchanged.
Shares in The Japan Steel Works, Ltd. (T:5631) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 10.61% or 49.0 to 511.0.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.66% to 19.56 a new 6-months low.
Crude oil for September delivery was down 1.02% or 0.44 to $42.58 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 1.12% or 0.51 to hit $44.88 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.31% or 4.15 to trade at $1337.15 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.05% to 102.40, while EUR/JPY fell 0.17% to 113.41.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.15% at 96.43.
