Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Electrical/Machinery and Pharmaceutical Industry sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.12%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Minebea Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:6479), which rose 4.52% or 96.0 points to trade at 2222.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Okuma Corp. (TOKYO:6103) added 3.65% or 51.0 points to end at 1450.0 and The Dai-ichi Life Insurance Co. (TOKYO:8750) was up 3.27% or 75.0 points to 2368.5 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:9532), which fell 3.31% or 17.4 points to trade at 508.7 at the close. Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co. (TOKYO:5706) declined 3.22% or 12.0 points to end at 361.0 and Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. (TOKYO:9502) was down 3.01% or 57.0 points to 1836.0.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1074 to 808 and 1 ended unchanged.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.86% to 17.52.
Crude oil for July delivery was down 0.81% or 0.49 to $60.27 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in July fell 0.64% or 0.41 to hit $64.69 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.16% or 1.90 to trade at $1182.30 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.11% to 123.56, while EUR/JPY fell 0.20% to 138.65.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.28% at 95.23.
