  • Canada's National Energy Board launches a new process for resolving permit disputes related to Kinder Morgan’s (KMI) Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project.
  • The NEB says the new process, which was requested by KMI, will consider future disputes between the company and provincial and municipal authorities, and provide a response within 3-5 weeks, providing a “measure of certainty” for all parties.
  • The change comes a day after Kinder Morgan Canada said the start-up of the Trans Mountain expansion would be delayed until December 2020 due to permitting delays.
  • Separately, the NEB says it will hold hearings in Burnaby, B.C., starting next week to discuss the final route of the expansion; last year, the city refused to issue key construction permits, forcing KMI to appeal to the NEB for permission to proceed with its work.
