Ubisoft creates the Quartz, an energy-efficient NFT platform

On the 9th of December 2021, Ubisoft will distribute NFTs to PC players on the Tezos blockchain, beginning with Ghost Recon Breakpoint. Ubisoft launched its first entry into nonfungible tokens (NFTs) via a new platform called Ubisoft Quartz, which will launch in beta this week alongside Ghost Recon Breakpoint on Ubisoft Connect for PC users. Players can receive Digits, which are "the first NFTs playable in Triple-A games (AAA) and running on energy-efficient technology," according to a statement posted on the Ubisoft website. On December 9, 12, and 15, in the United States and Canada, digital items such as in-game vehicles and weaponry will be launched in limited quantities and editions and given away for free to early adopters. In addition to the United States, Brazil, Spain, France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, and Australia will have access to Quartz.

The proof-of-stake blockchain Tezos is used to power Ubisoft Quartz's energy-efficient technology. In an interview published on the company's website, Ubisoft's blockchain technical director underlined the company's dedication to minimizing its global footprint, saying, "This sort of blockchain technology provides the same results while using substantially less energy than proof-of-work protocols." To give you an idea, a Tezos transaction is the equivalent of 30 seconds of video streaming, but a Bitcoin transaction is the equivalent of one year of video streaming!". Ubisoft had already teamed with distribution company Ultra to use the UOS blockchain for their titles.

Ubisoft is one of the top 25 most valuable gaming firms in the world, with a market valuation of approximately $5.8 billion. It's also noteworthy that a AAA gaming firm is pushing blockchain technology at a time when other companies, such as Valve, have just withdrawn blockchain games from their marketplaces.
