Investment Strategy

The Fund aims to provide capital growth in excess of the FTSE UK Small Cap ex Investment Trusts (Gross Total Return) index (after fees have been deducted) over a three to five year period by investing in equity and equity related securities of small-sized UK companies. The Fund is actively managed and invests at least 80% of its assets in equity and equity related securities of small-sized UK companies. These are companies that are incorporated, headquartered or have their principal business activities in the UK and, at the time of purchase, are similar in size to those comprising the bottom 10% by market capitalisation of the UK equities market.

Biography Andy Brough is Head of the Pan European Small and Mid Cap team at Schroders. He launched the Schroder UK Mid 250 Fund in 1999 and has co-managed the Schroder UK Mid Cap Fund plc since May 2003. Within smaller companies, Andy has co-managed the Schroder Institutional UK Smaller Companies Fund and managed the Schroder UK Smaller Companies Fund for over 20 years. Biography Iain Staples is a Fund Manager in Schroders Pan European Small & Mid Cap team. He manages the Schroder UK Dynamic Smaller Companies Fund and co-manages the Schroder Institutional UK Smaller Companies Fund. He joined Schroders in 2012 as an analyst focussing on UK smaller companies. Iain was an Analyst at Hoare Govett, Clear Capital and Altium from 1999 to 2012, working on the sell-side. Qualifications: MSc in Theoretical Physics from Manchester University; MA in Mathematics from Cambridge University.

Biography Rosemary began her career with James Capel & Co where she was a senior investment analyst for 12 years. She rose to prominence and developed a reputation as a leading female fund manager in the UK after joining Schroders in 1997. Rosemary spent nearly 20 years at Schroders and was for many years lead manager of the award-winning1 Schroder UK Mid Cap Fund Plc as well as heading up several other UK equity mandates, managing total assets of circa £1 billion. The Schroder UK Mid Cap Trust returned 17%2 p.a. while Rosemary was manager and in her two and a half years (to June 2019) managing money at Sanford DeLand the CFP SDL Free Spirit Fund returned 31%3, placing it in the top decile of the IA UK All Companies sector. Rosemary joined Downing in March 2020 to launch the VT Downing Unique Opportunities Fund (DUO).
