Investment Strategy

The investment seeks long-term growth of capital by investing primarily in common stocks of small growth companies. The portfolio's sub-adviser, T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. (the "sub-adviser"), seeks to achieve the portfolio's objective by investing, under normal circumstances, at least 80% of its net assets (plus the amount of borrowings, if any, for investment purposes) in small-cap growth companies. These are currently defined by the sub-adviser as companies whose market capitalization at the time of purchase falls within the range of companies in the Morgan Stanley Capital International U.S. Small Cap Growth Index ("MSCI U.S. Small Cap Growth Index").
