The investment seeks to maximize total return through current income that is exempt from federal income taxes and capital appreciation consistent with capital preservation. The fund normally invests at least 80% of its net assets (plus any borrowings for investment purposes) in investment grade municipal securities, including securities subject to the U.S. federal alternative minimum tax, with income exempt from regular U.S. federal income tax. It may invest its remaining assets in cash, cash equivalents and certain taxable debt instruments.
