Investment Strategy

The investment seeks total return, consisting of current income exempt from federal income tax and capital appreciation. Under normal circumstances, the fund invests at least 80% of its net assets (including the amount of any borrowings for investment purposes) in high yield securities. These securities generally include medium grade or below investment grade debt securities or unrated debt securities determined to be of comparable quality, but also may include other securities believed to have the potential for relatively high yield. It may invest in bonds of any maturity.

Biography Conlin is a portfolio manager with Heartland Advisors, his employer since 1996. Previously, he was managing director of the municipal fixed income department at Strong Capital Management. Prior to joining Strong in 1991, he was with Stein Roe & Farnham in Chicago for 14 years, where he served as both portfolio manager and director of municipal research. Conlin holds the Chartered Financial Analyst and a Chartered Investment Counselor designations.
