TASER International Inc.’s (NASDAQ:TASR) subsidiary, Axon, won an order for 963 Axon Body 2 cameras from California's San Jose Police Department. The company also received an order for 628 Axon Body 2 cameras and 300 TASER X2 Smart Weapons from the Minneapolis Police Department (“MPD”).

Both the orders include a five-year subscription to EVIDENCE.com, TASER’s cloud-based digital evidence management platform. San Jose’s subscription is based on the Unlimited license tier, while the MPD’s order is based on the Axon Officer Safety Plan (“OSP”) and other premium license tiers.

The company received the San Jose order in the second quarter and shipments will be rolled out in phases through 2016. On the other hand, the MPD’s order was received in the first quarter and shipped in the second.

Both the police departments conducted extensive trials of a number of other body cameras before finally deciding on Axon cameras. They were given preference due to their smooth incorporation and capability to ensure safety of digital evidence.

TASER Smart Weapon

TASER develops, assembles and markets less lethal, conducted energy weapons primarily for use by the law enforcement and corrections bodies. The advanced TASER Smart Weapon offers improved performance over other options used by law enforcement agencies. It can temporarily incapacitate virtually any individual regardless of pain tolerance, drug use or body size – factors that often decrease the efficiency of other less lethal options.

Axon Body 2

Introduced in Oct 2015, Axon Body 2 is part of the growing Axon platform that connects cloud, mobile and wearable technologies. This gives police agencies a distinct transparency. The new Axon Body 2 takes the powerful simplicity of its predecessor to the next level with its single-unit design, which is equipped with more advanced capabilities like unlimited HD video recording and industry leading security enhancements.

Growing demand for AXON body cameras and EVIDENCE.com reflect law enforcement agencies’ shift in focus toward accountability and trust. Demand for TASER’s products and services have seen an impressive rise, particularly in the U.S., following increasing tensions between law enforcement officials and the public. However, the company has witnessed ups and downs in its business given intensifying competition in the space and cyclical sales of its products.

TASER International currently sports a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).

Other Stocks to Consider
