This morning, the S&P 500 Index e-mini futures (ES-U2) are trading higher by 3.25 points to 1406.75 per contract. The small move higher comes as there are no bad reports out of the Euro-zone. This week, the major stock indexes have seen some of the lightest trading volumes all year. Complacency seems to be running wild as there is simply no fear in the market. Many traders are waiting to hear what German Chancellor Angela Merkel will have to say while visiting Canada. She is expected to speak at a press conference later today. Will she hint that Germany is on board with Euro-bonds? We shall see.
Last night, the Asian markets where modestly lower. The one standout Asian stock index was the Nikkei 225 Index (Japan) which closed higher by 1.88 percent. Traders should watch the Japanese ADR's to be strong today if the U.S. markets are strong. Leading Japanese equities such as Sony Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:SNE), Toyota Motor Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:TM), Canon Inc (ADR) (NYSE:CAJ), and Honda Motor Co Ltd (ADR) (NYSE:HMC) could all be in play this morning.
