Ceres Power Holdings (LON:CWR) has announced it is working with British Gas on a trial of prototype home power systems in the UK. The programme strengthens Ceres’s presence in this sector, complementing its activities in electric vehicle power trains and higher power systems for data centres and commercial applications. The activity complements recent programmes with other blue-chip partners: Cummins (NYSE:CMI), Honda Motor Company Ltd (NYSE:HMC) and Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (T:7201).
During calendar Q416, Ceres will deliver 10 prototype power systems to British Gas for deployment in homes and at British Gas sites. These will be used in the final phase of the EU ene-field fuel cell residential programme. The trial is the first of its kind in UK homes and will run for a year. From Ceres’s viewpoint, the trial will prove that its Steel Cell technology is ready for commercial deployment and demonstrate that the technology can be integrated into cost-effective solutions for the European market, which is one of the largest globally. The trial will also confirm that the new systems reduce the energy consumption and carbon emissions of a typical home by up to one-third and help quantify the potential cost savings.
