The Wellbeing App Is an Extra Pair of Eyes Watching Out for Users, Providing Another Layer of Safety in Daily Activities

Soon-to-be-launched app provides individuals and families with a comprehensive safety and security tool

Solo living has become a more common arrangement for Americans, with the percentage of single-person households more than tripling from 1940 to 2020, according to US Census data. While living alone comes with a greater sense of freedom, it also carries safety risks, as it can be harder to get help in a dangerous situation. Additionally, around 15.2 million Americans who live alone are senior citizens, who are more vulnerable to health emergencies and have much more limited mobility than the younger population.

Seeking to address these concerns is The Wellbeing App, a soon-to-be-released safety-focused mobile application for individuals and their families, whether they live in the same household or not. The Wellbeing App provides a round-the-clock monitoring system on the user’s device, empowering them to take control of their security.

The foremost of the app’s numerous features is the Proof of Life Indicator, where the app reminds the user to check in if the device is unused for a certain amount of time during their regular waking hours. Users will not receive a reminder if they’ve recently used their device, but if the user misses the reminder, the app will alert the user’s designated emergency contact and remind them to check in on the user. The app also has a Digital Chaperone feature, which allows users to have an individual they trust on a video call, providing guidance or assistance as they go about their daily errands, as well as acting as a witness in case anything untoward happens to the user.

The Wellbeing App’s easy-access configuration helps users get in touch with their emergency contacts or call emergency numbers such as 911 when they need help. Real-time location sharing provides ease in locating the user in case of an emergency, and the app’s notifications can be personalized to avoid unnecessary involvement of emergency services.

Aside from helping seniors and other people living alone in case of emergencies, The Wellbeing app can also be used by people, especially women, who are out late, with the app and the trusted emergency contact being an extra pair of eyes watching out for the user. The Wellbeing App’s Proof of Life feature is also useful for travelers, for their family and friends back home to know that they are safe and sound, as well as providing location data for quick medical assistance in case of an emergency.

The Wellbeing App was created by entrepreneur Ronald Laporte, who was concerned about his late mother, Freda, who insisted on living alone in the last years of her life. He believes that she might still be alive today if there was a solution that quickly alerted her family if something went wrong, which is why he set out to create a solution to help other individuals and families.

With the Wellbeing App nearing completion and undergoing testing, Laporte is looking for investors and technology and distribution partners that will help bring the project to the finish line and release it to the wider public.

“Many people today live alone, but that doesn’t mean that no one cares for them and are not worried if something goes wrong,” Laporte says. “I created The Wellbeing App so users can enjoy their autonomy and go about their daily lives but have an extra layer of safety and security to lean on, allowing people they trust to watch over them and quickly alert emergency services when needed. I am looking forward to working with like-minded individuals and organizations to bring The Wellness App to the people who need it, giving them and their families increased peace of mind.”
