Ubiq Inc., a cloud computing 2.0 company headquartered in Rockville, Maryland, has announced that it is seeking investments to help it grow and commercialize its flagship product, UBIQ Network. This next-generation platform seeks to provide an alternative to conventional cloud computing services, providing increased reliability and data mobility at a lower cost.
Ubiq was founded in 2017 by Mr. Steven He, an IT professional with more than 30 years of experience in the industry, having developed video games and enterprise software, with a focus on enterprise content management (ECM) systems. He holds a master’s degree in physics from Waseda University in Japan. The impetus behind the establishment of Ubiq was several major cloud computing service outages, particularly the Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) Web Services outage on February 28, 2017. The company’s motto is SAFER, which stands for Serve All Fairly, Effectively, and Reliably.
Based on the principle of decentralization and built using a patented technology developed by He, UBIQ Network has more than 40 networking nodes worldwide, located across the US, Canada, China, Germany, and Hong Kong, with multiple software applications now running on the platform. Instead of relying on centralized data centers, UBIQ Network’s nodes prevent having a single point of failure, reducing the chance of downtime. Steven’s technology has several patent applications and grants from the US Patent and Trademark Office, with more patent applications filed in other countries.
“UBIQ Network is able to provide more than “five nines” of reliability or 99.999% uptime,” shares Steven He. Unlike conventional cloud computing which requires an exponential increase in investment to scale up its reliability, UBIQ Network requires only a linear increase. This allows UBIQ Network to provide clients with a level of reliability that meets their needs while keeping costs low.
Since its inception, Ubiq has had two seed funding rounds, in 2018 and 2020. A Series A funding round was planned for 2022, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced the company to delay its plans. According to Steven, the investments will be used to grow its engineering, sales, and marketing teams, as the company aims to commercialize its UBIQ Network solution and release it to the wider market.
Steven believes that the UBIQ Network represents a step in the right direction, with technology trending towards decentralization, which was one of the original goals of the internet. While conventional cloud computing has provided significant convenience for users, its centralized nature makes it vulnerable to failure and interruptions, as demonstrated by multiple incidents that have made headlines over the past decades.
“UBIQ Network is the fruit of our several years of relentless endeavors,” He says. “Ubiq is an expert in the field of next-generation network computing, especially in the field of decentralized computing. We have accumulated a significant body of intellectual property, patents, industrial know-how, and practices that guarantee our leading position in the development of cloud computing 2.0. With your investment, we can solve several pain points and inherent weaknesses of conventional cloud computing, delivering increased capabilities and better reliability to users all over the world.”
