Investment Strategy

The Fund aims to achieve capital growth over the long term (five years or more) through investment in sustainable securities, mainly consisting of European equities. The investment process aims to consistently identify high quality sustainable companies that the Investment Adviser believes have the capacity to generate superior performance; these are companies which qualify as “sustainable investments” as defined under the SFDR, that also have predictable earnings growth and are attractively valued.

Biography Martyn Jones is the Lead Fund Manager of the Liontrust Sustainable Future European Growth fund and Pan-European Growth fund, and co-Manager of SF UK Growth and Ethical funds. He joined Liontrust in 2017 following the acquisition of Alliance Trust Investments and became a Fund Manager in November 2019. Prior to Liontrust, Martyn spent five years at Alliance Trust Investments initially as a Graduate Trainee and then as an Investment Analyst with the Sustainable Investment team. Martyn has an MA in Business Management from the University of Glasgow and a Masters from the University of Cambridge, Institute for Sustainability Leadership. Martyn is a CFA Charterholder and holds the CFA Society Investment Management Certificate.

Biography Peter Michaelis joined Liontrust in April 2017 as part of the acquisition of Alliance Trust Investments, where he was Head of Investment. Peter has been managing money in Sustainable and Responsible Investment for over 20 years. After completing a PhD in Environmental Economics, Peter started his career working for the Steel Construction Institute as an Environmental Engineer. He then moved to Henderson Global Investors where he was able to use his experience as a Sustainable and Responsible Investment Analyst and Assistant Portfolio Manager. In 2001, he moved to Aviva Investors (previously Morley Fund Management), where he was promoted to lead portfolio manager on a number of its Sustainable and Responsible Investment funds, before being made Head of Sustainable and Responsible Investment.

Biography Neil Brown joined Liontrust in 2017 after spending five years at Alliance Trust Investments as investment manager on the European funds, before being promoted to lead fund manager on them at Aviva Investors in 2011. Prior to Aviva, he was at Threadneedle Asset Management where he combined the roles of Pan European Equity Analyst and Head of Governance and Responsible Investment. Neil is lead fund manager on the SF European Growth OEIC and SF Pan European SICAV. He is co-fund manager on the SF UK Growth and UK Ethical funds. A frequent guest host on CNBC Squawk box, Neil is also the immediate past Chair of the Investment Integration Working Group, a member of the Listed Equity Advisory Committee and a member of the Sustainable Development Goals in Active Ownership Management Working Group of the UN Principles for Responsible Investment. Neil has an MSc in Development Economics from the School of Oriental & African Studies and a BA (Hons) in Economics from the University of Manchester.
