Oil

IRN is delighted to be launching the Oil Trading Risks 2014 Summit, taking place on 22-23 October in Geneva.

We understand oil is an essential yet volatile commodity; hence there are a lot of risks related to trading this product on a global scale. The summit will highlight the best practices in terms of financial, political, regulatory and supply chain risk management, to help risk managers and trading specialists to adjust their approaches to the business.

Expert speakers from oil trading companies will engage in discussions around hedging strategies, credit risk management, currency risk and interest rate risk. There will be sessions shedding some light on how to better forecast political events likely to affect companies’ ability to trade oil, including a session on trade sanctions; as well as updates on the regulatory framework of oil trading. Two workshops will also be introduced to analyse in depth risk management culture, how it should be implemented, and how you can make it an essential part of the decision making processes. The physical side of oil trading will also be covered through very focused sessions including a workshop on supply disruption’s prevention and presentation om standardisation of documentation.

IRN also facilitates networking opportunities during the two days of Summit: breaks, Lunches, Drinks Reception, and Gala Dinner will be the perfect setting for you and your team to establish or reinforce contacts within the industry.

FOCUS AREAS

Market Risk

Price volatility and market risks have a direct impact on oil trading
companies and their ability to drive profit; oil trading entities will
discuss CTRM systems and portfolio optimisation as tools to better
manage market risk in focused sessions at the Summit.

Credit Risk

Counterparty defaults is one of the biggest risks oil trading
organisations have to face. What kind of model can you rely on to
calculate your exposure? What are the trends in this space? How can
an oil trading company build or optimize their credit risk model?
Presentations and panel discussions will address each of these issues
across the two days.

Regulatory Risk

The regulatory framework is changing with new regulations going
live, including EMIR, MiFID II, Basel III. There is a need to understand
them better and to see the short-term and long-term impact they
will have on oil trading companies and their ability to hedge their
risks. Discussions and presentations will address the challenges, as
well as raise key conversations around trade sanctions.

Political Risk

Political unrest and instability are major risk factors for oil trading
companies. Speakers at the Summit will debate a number of issues
including what kind of methodology can be put in place to better
forecast disturbances, and which partners can help.

Financial Risk

Currency and interest rates risk are amongst the financial risks oil
trading companies face on a daily basis. Experts will share views on
the best practices, risk mitigation, and trade controls.
