The Great Faw Port with 90 berths is expected to surpass the 67-berth Jebel Ali, known as the largest container port in the Middle East. It is expected to be completed in 2025. The Development Road Project, which will reach the Turkish border from the port, is one of the alternative options in case of possible conflicts and wars, as China's Silk Road does not pass directly through Iraq. The project is expected to save time and cost by shortening the distance between China and Europe compared to the sea route passing through the Suez Canal. But the project, which aims to establish a new Silk Road between Türkiye and Iraq, has a huge cost that the Iraqi government cannot undertake alone. For this reason, Türkiye, Gulf countries and China are expected to contribute to the financing and completion of the project. $PASEU

$PASEU : The initiative, which is also known as “Development Road,” aims to connect Iraq’s Grand Port at Al-Faw near the Persian Gulf to Turkiye’s Mediterranean coast and then to Europe via new rail and road networks. The initiative was also among the issues discussed between Turkish, Iraqi, Emirati and Iraqi Kurdish officials earlier this week during Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visit to the United Arab Emirates on Feb. 12-13. “The Development Road is a giant project in which the UAE, Iraq and we are also involved,” Erdogan told journalists on his return from the visit, adding that the talks about the initiative were ongoing.

Iraq Plans Railway Connection to the Persian Gulf via Turkiye: Iraq’s Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, has announced plans for a railway and road corridor to Europe through Turkiye, according to the railway portal Railway Supply, citing Railway Gazette. The creation of a 1,200-kilometer line was announced on May 27 during a conference with representatives from the transportation ministries of Iran, Jordan, Syria, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. The project, including a planned parallel railway, has an estimated cost of $17 billion. $PASEU
