Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 3.27%

Investing.com – Germany stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Consumer & Cyclical, Basic Resources and Technology sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 3.27% to hit a new 1-month low, while the MDAX index lost 2.84%, and the TecDAX index declined 2.54%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were E.ON SE NA (XETRA:EONGn), which fell 0.34% or 0.040 points to trade at 11.665 at the close. Meanwhile, Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (XETRA:LHAG) fell 0.69% or 0.085 points to end at 12.155 and Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (XETRA:FREG) was down 0.81% or 0.510 points to 62.670 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Henkel AG & Co Kgaa Vzo (XETRA:HNKG_p), which fell 8.97% or 9.770 points to trade at 99.130 at the close. Daimler AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DAIGn) declined 4.87% or 3.890 points to end at 76.040 and Continental AG O.N. (XETRA:CONG) was down 4.69% or 10.100 points to 205.450.

The top performers on the MDAX were Bilfinger SE O.N. (XETRA:GBFG) which rose 4.87% to 40.035, Tag Immobilien AG (XETRA:TEGG) which was up 0.55% to settle at 10.090 and Sky Deutschland AG NA (XETRA:SKYDn) which gained 0.21% to close at 6.785.

The worst performers were Duerr AG O.N. (XETRA:DUEG) which was down 5.61% to 74.080 in late trade, Salzgitter AG O.N. (XETRA:SZGG) which lost 5.17% to settle at 30.900 and Airbus Group (XETRA:AIRG) which was down 5.10% to 61.144 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Jenoptik AG O.N. (XETRA:JENG) which fell 0.04% to 12.225, Drillisch AG O.N. (XETRA:DRIG) which was down 0.37% to settle at 40.715 and Stratec Biomedical (XETRA:SBSG) which lost 0.72% to close at 48.150.

The worst performers were LPKF Laser & Electronics (XETRA:LPKG) which was down 6.41% to 8.300 in late trade, Adva Optical Networking SE (XETRA:ADAG) which lost 5.72% to settle at 9.301 and BB Biotech AG (XETRA:BIONn) which was down 5.71% to 265.650 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 696 to 47 and 41 ended unchanged.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 14.51% to 21.62 a new 1-month high.

Gold for December delivery was up 1.37% or 15.20 to $1122.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.07% or 0.03 to hit $43.11 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.38% or 0.19 to trade at $49.90 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 1.44% to 1.1200, while EUR/GBP rose 0.94% to 0.7160.

The US Dollar Index was down 1.24% at 96.03.
