Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the S&P BSE Capital Goods, S&P BSE Public Sector Undertakings and S&P BSE Realty sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty rose 1.81%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.88%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were UltraTech Cement Ltd (NSE:ULTC), which rose 5.08% or 142.20 points to trade at 2944.05 at the close. Meanwhile, Asian Paints Ltd. (NSE:ASPN) added 3.77% or 29.30 points to end at 807.45 and Housing Development Finance Corp. (NSE:HDFC) was up 3.44% or 43.50 points to 1306.20 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tech Mahindra Limited (NSE:TEML), which fell 2.93% or 18.95 points to trade at 626.95 at the close. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NSE:HALC) declined 2.09% or 2.80 points to end at 131.15 and Cairn India Limited (NSE:CAIL) was down 1.76% or 3.80 points to 211.65.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (BO:BRTI) which rose 3.55% to 389.550, Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which was up 3.52% to settle at 1306.200 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which gained 3.49% to close at 314.700.
The worst performers were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which was down 1.61% to 131.400 in late trade, Tata Power Co. Ltd (BO:TTPW) which lost 0.73% to settle at 74.550 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 0.17% to 810.350 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1185 to 235 and 10 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 489 rose and 96 declined.
Shares in Cairn India Limited (NSE:CAIL) fell to 3-year lows; falling 1.76% or 3.80 to 211.65. Shares in Tata Power Co. Ltd (BO:TTPW) fell to 52-week lows; falling 0.73% or 0.550 to 74.550. Shares in Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) fell to 52-week lows; down 0.17% or 1.400 to 810.350.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 1.64% to 14.2625.
Gold for June delivery was down 1.05% or 12.60 to $1188.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.73% or 0.84 to hit $48.02 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.28% or 0.72 to trade at $55.69 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.17% to 62.630, while EUR/INR fell 0.22% to 67.9640.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.37% at 97.98.
