Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Banking, Capital Goods and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty gained 0.47% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.53%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NSE:INBK), which rose 2.73% or 23.75 points to trade at 893.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Housing Development Finance Corp. (NSE:HDFC) added 2.40% or 30.85 points to end at 1316.05 and Hero MotoCorp Limited (NSE:HROM) was up 1.91% or 48.35 points to 2576.65 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Vedanta Ltd (NSE:VDAN), which fell 1.73% or 3.00 points to trade at 170.55 at the close. Cairn India Limited (NSE:CAIL) declined 1.61% or 3.00 points to end at 183.20 and Tech Mahindra Limited (NSE:TEML) was down 1.61% or 7.70 points to 471.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which rose 2.53% to 1316.05, Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which was up 1.77% to settle at 2577.80 and HDFC Bank Ltd. (BO:HDBK) which gained 1.61% to close at 1074.45.
The worst performers were Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 1.93% to 170.65 in late trade, Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which lost 1.63% to settle at 417.15 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which was down 1.13% to 300.95 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 743 to 696 and 7 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 402 fell and 350 advanced, while 2 ended unchanged.
Shares in Vedanta Ltd (NSE:VDAN) fell to 52-week lows; falling 1.73% or 3.00 to 170.55. Shares in Tech Mahindra Limited (NSE:TEML) fell to 52-week lows; falling 1.61% or 7.70 to 471.60. Shares in Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) fell to 52-week lows; down 1.93% or 3.35 to 170.65.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was up 4.80% to 16.3050.
Gold for August delivery was up 0.36% or 4.20 to $1167.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.56% or 0.32 to hit $56.61 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.61% or 0.38 to trade at $61.69 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.25% to 63.456, while EUR/INR rose 0.48% to 70.4980.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.18% at 96.11.
