Investing.com – Australia stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, Telecoms Services and Industrials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.74%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were AWE Ltd (ASX:AWE), which rose 6.57% or 0.045 points to trade at 0.730 at the close. Meanwhile, Regis Resources Ltd (ASX:RRL) added 5.71% or 0.090 points to end at 1.665 and Karoon Gas Australia Ltd (ASX:KAR) was up 5.03% or 0.090 points to 1.880 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were TPG Telecom Ltd (ASX:TPM), which fell 4.58% or 0.480 points to trade at 10.000 at the close. Western Areas Ltd (ASX:WSA) declined 4.47% or 0.110 points to end at 2.350 and Slater & Gordon Ltd (ASX:SGH) was down 4.24% or 0.120 points to 2.710.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Australia Stock Exchange by 530 to 399 and 162 ended unchanged.
Shares in Western Areas Ltd (ASX:WSA) fell to 52-week lows; losing 4.47% or 0.110 to 2.350.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 8.25% to 24.303.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.02% or 0.20 to $1132.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.43% or 0.67 to hit $46.29 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.96% or 0.47 to trade at $48.45 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.31% to 0.7153, while AUD/JPY rose 0.13% to 86.08.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.08% at 96.11.
