India stocks lower at close of trade; S&P CNX Nifty down 0.50%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Real Estate, Capital Goods and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty lost 0.50%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.46%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Cairn India Limited (NSE:CAIL), which rose 3.93% or 8.95 points to trade at 236.60 at the close. Meanwhile, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NSE:ONGC) added 3.31% or 10.50 points to end at 327.65 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NSE:MAHM) was up 1.62% or 19.60 points to 1228.50 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Hero MotoCorp Limited (NSE:HROM), which fell 3.74% or 94.45 points to trade at 2430.10 at the close. ACC Ltd (NSE:ACC) declined 3.12% or 50.35 points to end at 1564.20 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (NSE:ULTC) was down 3.06% or 91.45 points to 2895.05.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which rose 3.25% to 327.50, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was up 1.31% to settle at 1225.40 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which gained 1.25% to close at 137.25.

The worst performers were Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which was down 3.76% to 2428.85 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 2.60% to settle at 1089.55 and Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which was down 2.14% to 678.75 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 983 to 442 and 7 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 407 fell and 179 advanced.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was up 2.26% to 14.9500.

Gold for June delivery was up 0.57% or 6.80 to $1208.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.53% or 0.86 to hit $55.52 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 1.35% or 0.85 to trade at $62.47 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.22% to 62.285, while EUR/INR rose 0.26% to 66.8120.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.42% at 98.14.
