Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Public Sector Undertakings, Oil & Gas and Consumer Durables sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty lost 0.42%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.40%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (NS:BHEL), which rose 3.62% or 7.60 points to trade at 217.55 at the close. Meanwhile, Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) added 2.64% or 2.70 points to end at 104.85 and Bajaj Auto Limited (NS:BAJA) was up 2.38% or 59.95 points to 2575.60 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Asian Paints Ltd. (NS:ASPN), which fell 4.76% or 40.90 points to trade at 817.70 at the close. Yes Bank Ltd. (NS:YESB) declined 3.24% or 24.95 points to end at 746.20 and NMDC Ltd (NS:NMDC) was down 2.79% or 2.80 points to 97.70.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which rose 3.72% to 217.55, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was up 2.40% to settle at 104.70 and Bajaj Auto Limited (BO:BAJA) which gained 2.14% to close at 2567.55.
The worst performers were Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which was down 2.40% to 333.20 in late trade, Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which lost 2.09% to settle at 1312.85 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 1.91% to 351.90 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 976 to 468 and 8 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 543 fell and 243 advanced, while 8 ended unchanged.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was up 6.41% to 17.2300.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.43% or 5.00 to $1167.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.27% or 0.12 to hit $44.72 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.04% or 0.02 to trade at $48.01 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.15% to 64.925, while EUR/INR rose 0.23% to 71.6620.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.20% at 96.98.
