India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.22%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Real Estate and Auto sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.22%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.24%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA), which rose 7.42% or 5.40 points to trade at 78.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (NS:BHEL) added 3.34% or 4.55 points to end at 140.75 and Tata Power Co. Ltd (NS:TTPW) was up 3.05% or 2.40 points to 81.15 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were ITC Ltd (NS:ITC), which fell 2.42% or 5.95 points to trade at 240.00 at the close. ICICI Bank Ltd . (NS:ICBK) declined 1.92% or 5.20 points to end at 265.15 and Hero MotoCorp Limited (NS:HROM) was down 1.30% or 44.45 points to 3365.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Wipro Ltd. (BO:WIPR) which rose 2.74% to 494.55, Lupin Ltd (BO:LUPN) which was up 2.04% to settle at 1512.05 and Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (BO:APSE) which gained 1.74% to close at 271.35.

The worst performers were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was down 2.44% to 239.80 in late trade, ICICI Bank Ltd. (BO:ICBK) which lost 2.00% to settle at 265.00 and Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which was down 1.28% to 3367.00 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 828 to 659 and 66 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1595 rose and 1154 declined, while 203 ended unchanged.

Shares in Tata Power Co. Ltd (NS:TTPW) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 3.05% or 2.40 to 81.15.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.52% to 14.6125.

Gold for December delivery was up 0.64% or 8.05 to $1270.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.31% or 0.66 to hit $50.95 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.28% or 0.66 to trade at $52.34 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.09% to 66.686, while EUR/INR rose 0.03% to 73.2940.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.16% at 97.72.
