Investing.com – Germany stocks were mixed after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Utilities, Technology and Basic Resources sectors led shares higher while losses in the Food & Beverages, Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare and Financial Services sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 0.68%, while the MDAX index lost 0.14%, and the TecDAX index lost 1.16%.
The best performers of the session on the DAX were Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:VOWG_p), which rose 7.12% or 6.910 points to trade at 104.000 at the close. Meanwhile, RWE AG ST O.N. (XETRA:RWEG) added 4.90% or 0.540 points to end at 11.565 and Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (XETRA:TKAG) was up 4.69% or 0.795 points to 17.745 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (XETRA:FREG), which fell 2.54% or 1.510 points to trade at 57.890 at the close. Deutsche Boerse NA O.N. (XETRA:DB1Gn) declined 2.46% or 1.980 points to end at 78.350 and Merck KGAA O.N. (XETRA:MRCG) was down 1.91% or 1.510 points to 77.570.
The top performers on the MDAX were Salzgitter AG O.N. (XETRA:SZGG) which rose 6.81% to 25.795, Elringklinger AG NA O.N. (XETRA:ZILGn) which was up 5.76% to settle at 18.530 and Leoni AG NA O.N. (XETRA:LEOGn) which gained 3.16% to close at 51.530.
The worst performers were Tui AG NA (XETRA:TUIGn) which was down 3.67% to 16.520 in late trade, Kion Group AG (XETRA:KGX) which lost 3.28% to settle at 39.51 and Suedzucker Mannheim Ochsenfurt AG (XETRA:SZUG) which was down 2.94% to 16.360 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Kontron AG O.N. (XETRA:KBCG) which rose 6.70% to 2.770, Aixtron SE NA O.N. (XETRA:AIXGn) which was up 3.01% to settle at 5.373 and QSC AG NA O.N. (XETRA:QSCG) which gained 2.70% to close at 1.637.
The worst performers were Xing AG (XETRA:OBCGn) which was down 3.32% to 185.000 in late trade, Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (XETRA:SATG_p) which lost 3.25% to settle at 187.300 and Drillisch AG O.N. (XETRA:DRIG) which was down 2.51% to 47.865 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 372 to 310 and 32 ended unchanged.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 0.93% to 23.47 a new 1-month low.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.01% or 0.10 to $1146.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.29% or 0.14 to hit $48.67 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.47% or 0.24 to trade at $52.16 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.21% to 1.1249, while EUR/GBP fell 0.83% to 0.7342.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.05% at 95.58.
