Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 1.61%

Investing.com – Germany stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Utilities, Food & Beverages and Telecoms sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 1.61%, while the MDAX index declined 0.97%, and the TecDAX index lost 1.22%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Henkel AG & Co Kgaa Vzo (XETRA:HNKG_p), which rose 1.16% or 1.250 points to trade at 108.950 at the close. Meanwhile, Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (XETRA:DPWGn) fell 0.54% or 0.155 points to end at 28.715 and Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (XETRA:IFXGn) was down 0.60% or 0.070 points to 11.605 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were E.ON SE NA (XETRA:EONGn), which fell 3.27% or 0.460 points to trade at 13.590 at the close. Deutsche Telekom AG Na (XETRA:DTEGn) declined 2.83% or 0.460 points to end at 15.795 and RWE AG ST O.N. (XETRA:RWEG) was down 2.82% or 0.635 points to 21.900.

The top performers on the MDAX were Wincor Nixdorf O.N. (XETRA:WING) which rose 1.74% to 34.825, Osram Licht (XETRA:OSRn) which was up 0.66% to settle at 49.324 and Kion Group AG (XETRA:KGX) which gained 0.52% to close at 43.19.

The worst performers were Suedzucker Mannheim Ochsenfurt AG (XETRA:SZUG) which was down 3.15% to 14.590 in late trade, Norma Group AG NA O.N. (XETRA:NOEJ) which lost 2.89% to settle at 48.885 and Aareal Bank AG (XETRA:ARLG) which was down 2.87% to 35.690 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were QSC AG NA O.N. (XETRA:QSCG) which rose 2.44% to 2.271, Kontron AG O.N. (XETRA:KBCG) which was up 2.30% to settle at 4.757 and Jenoptik AG O.N. (XETRA:JENG) which gained 1.69% to close at 12.000.

The worst performers were Carl Zeiss Meditec AG (XETRA:AFXG) which was down 5.90% to 22.000 in late trade, LPKF Laser & Electronics (XETRA:LPKG) which lost 4.87% to settle at 8.571 and Stratec Biomedical (XETRA:SBSG) which was down 3.68% to 46.735 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 530 to 229 and 24 ended unchanged.

Shares in LPKF Laser & Electronics (XETRA:LPKG) fell to 52-week lows; losing 4.87% or 0.439 to 8.571.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was unchanged 0.00% to 19.79 a new 1-month low.

Gold for August delivery was down 1.41% or 17.00 to $1187.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 2.36% or 1.41 to hit $58.31 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 2.66% or 1.75 to trade at $63.77 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.90% to 1.0879, while EUR/GBP fell 0.44% to 0.7064.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.92% at 97.35.
