Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Mining, Materials and REIT sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.34%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Pason Systems Inc. (TO:PSI), which rose 7.24% or 1.31 points to trade at 19.41 at the close. Meanwhile, Gran Tierra Energy Inc. (TO:GTE) added 4.94% or 0.160 points to end at 3.400 and Newalta Corporation (TO:NAL) was up 4.67% or 0.70 points to 15.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Avigilon Corp (TO:AVO), which fell 15.26% or 3.76 points to trade at 20.88 at the close. Baytex Energy Corp. (TO:BTE) declined 5.71% or 1.11 points to end at 18.34 and Novagold Resources Inc. (TO:NG) was down 5.01% or 0.22 points to 4.17.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 826 to 634 and 174 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of options, was up 1.26% to 16.07.
Gold for April delivery was down 0.48% or 5.80 to $1198.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude Oil for delivery in April rose 2.37% or 1.20 to hit $51.72 a barrel, while the April Brent Oil contract fell 1.18% or 0.72 to trade at $60.30 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.62% to 0.8054, while CAD/EUR rose 1.52% to 0.7272.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.55% at 95.97.
