Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Life Insurance/Assurance and Food & Drug Retailers sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 1.83%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were G4S PLC (LON:GFS), which rose 1.19% or 2.20 points to trade at 187.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) added 0.67% or 4.00 points to end at 603.50 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 0.25% or 3.00 points to 1214.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Standard Life PLC (LON:SL), which fell 4.36% or 14.400 points to trade at 316.200 at the close. Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) declined 4.02% or 6.3500 points to end at 151.5500 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) was down 3.81% or 32.80 points to 827.30.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1724 to 376 and 420 ended unchanged.
Shares in Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) rose to 52-week highs; up 0.25% or 3.00 to 1214.00.
Gold for August delivery was up 0.11% or 1.45 to $1274.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 2.25% or 1.14 to hit $49.42 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 2.16% or 1.12 to trade at $50.83 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.82% to 1.4339, while EUR/GBP rose 0.47% to 0.7867.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.34% at 94.42.
