Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Food & Drug Retailers, Technology Hardware & Equipment and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.53%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO), which rose 4.41% or 8.60 points to trade at 203.70 at the close. Meanwhile, Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) added 3.27% or 29.00 points to end at 914.50 and Informa Plc (LON:INF) was up 2.47% or 16.00 points to 663.50 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which fell 3.61% or 19.50 points to trade at 520.00 at the close. Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) declined 3.27% or 230.00 points to end at 6800.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was down 2.76% or 46.00 points to 1620.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1562 to 740 and 450 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.01% or 0.15 to $1257.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.59% or 0.30 to hit $50.14 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.52% or 0.27 to trade at $51.76 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.50% to 1.2193, while EUR/GBP fell 0.07% to 0.9017.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.40% at 97.92.
