Investing.com – Russia stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Power, Oil & Gas and Telecoms sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Moscow, the MICEX gained 0.87% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the MICEX were ALROSA ao (MCX:ALRS), which rose 4.38% or 3.880 points to trade at 92.490 at the close. Meanwhile, FSK EES (MCX:FEES) added 4.22% or 0.0081 points to end at 0.2002 and AK Transneft OAO Pref (MCX:TRNF_p) was up 3.89% or 6650 points to 177800 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were NLMK ao (MCX:NLMK), which fell 4.11% or 5.06 points to trade at 117.94 at the close. Polyus Zoloto OAO (MCX:PLZL) declined 4.05% or 180.0 points to end at 4260.0 and MMK (MCX:MAGN) was down 2.70% or 0.955 points to 34.445.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Moscow Stock Exchange by 147 to 84 and 25 ended unchanged.
Shares in FSK EES (MCX:FEES) rose to 3-years highs; rising 4.22% or 0.0081 to 0.2002.
The Russian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of MICEX options, was down 0.34% to 23.560.
Gold for February delivery was down 1.23% or 14.65 to $1176.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 8.53% or 3.86 to hit $49.09 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 8.96% or 4.24 to trade at $51.56 a barrel.
USD/RUB was down 1.25% to 64.2826, while EUR/RUB fell 1.76% to 68.105.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.58% at 101.57.
