Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Banking, Metals and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.88%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.91%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Idea Cellular Ltd (NS:IDEA), which rose 4.12% or 3.10 points to trade at 78.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) added 3.23% or 25.40 points to end at 811.95 and Hero MotoCorp Limited (NS:HROM) was up 1.65% or 55.45 points to 3411.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were AXIS Bank Ltd. (NS:AXBK), which fell 8.29% or 43.85 points to trade at 485.25 at the close. Tata Motors DV Ltd (NS:TAMdv) declined 5.57% or 20.25 points to end at 343.00 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (NS:TISC) was down 5.38% or 22.35 points to 392.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 2.25% to 318.05, Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which was up 1.92% to settle at 3421.55 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which gained 1.56% to close at 5871.95.
The worst performers were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 8.04% to 486.50 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which lost 4.27% to settle at 529.50 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which was down 4.01% to 398.85 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 981 to 507 and 65 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1554 fell and 1156 advanced, while 231 ended unchanged.
Shares in Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) rose to all time highs; gaining 1.56% or 90.00 to 5871.95.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.21% to 14.4525.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.15% or 1.85 to $1271.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.28% or 0.64 to hit $49.32 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.18% or 0.60 to trade at $50.19 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.02% to 66.826, while EUR/INR rose 0.35% to 72.9900.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.19% at 98.50.
