Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, IT and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.17%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.19%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY), which rose 3.76% or 95.60 points to trade at 2636.25 at the close. Meanwhile, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) added 3.38% or 17.30 points to end at 528.85 and Housing Development Finance Corp. (NS:HDFC) was up 2.14% or 34.20 points to 1633.55 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS), which fell 3.58% or 93.65 points to trade at 2521.60 at the close. GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) declined 3.48% or 14.00 points to end at 388.60 and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (NS:IOC) was down 2.01% or 8.60 points to 418.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which rose 3.79% to 2637.25, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was up 3.38% to settle at 528.45 and Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which gained 2.28% to close at 1634.05.
The worst performers were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 3.59% to 2521.50 in late trade, Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which lost 3.44% to settle at 388.70 and Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 1.61% to 1143.60 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 788 to 764 and 11 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1311 fell and 1287 advanced, while 169 ended unchanged.
Shares in Housing Development Finance Corp. (NS:HDFC) rose to all time highs; rising 2.14% or 34.20 to 1633.55. Shares in Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) rose to all time highs; gaining 2.28% or 36.45 to 1634.05.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.63% to 11.0675.
Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.44% or 5.66 to $1287.54 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.72% or 0.33 to hit $46.05 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.79% or 0.38 to trade at $48.44 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.14% to 64.323, while EUR/INR fell 0.36% to 72.2670.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 96.86.
