Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Technology sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty added 1.35%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.46%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Idea Cellular Ltd (NSE:IDEA), which rose 7.02% or 9.80 points to trade at 149.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Cairn India Limited (NSE:CAIL) added 5.69% or 8.25 points to end at 153.35 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (NSE:TISC) was up 5.56% or 11.20 points to 212.60 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tech Mahindra Limited (NSE:TEML), which fell 2.29% or 13.05 points to trade at 557.35 at the close. Bank Of Baroda (NSE:BOB) declined 2.16% or 4.05 points to end at 183.20 and State Bank Of India (NSE:SBI) was down 1.96% or 4.75 points to 237.15.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which rose 5.24% to 211.90, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 4.50% to settle at 338.00 and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which gained 4.18% to close at 205.55.
The worst performers were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 1.96% to 237.25 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 1.68% to settle at 495.55 and Tata Power Co. Ltd (BO:TTPW) which was down 1.51% to 65.05 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 968 to 457 and 8 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 526 rose and 218 declined, while 5 ended unchanged.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 9.02% to 19.6250.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.40% or 4.50 to $1122.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.27% or 0.12 to hit $45.11 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.21% or 0.10 to trade at $48.13 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.25% to 65.671, while EUR/INR fell 0.63% to 73.6030.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.21% at 96.27.
