Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Technology sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.22% to hit a new 3-months high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.22%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (NS:APSE), which rose 5.30% or 12.15 points to trade at 241.25 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) added 3.51% or 12.65 points to end at 373.05 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was up 3.50% or 7.50 points to 221.80 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were ICICI Bank Ltd . (NS:ICBK), which fell 3.72% or 9.45 points to trade at 244.60 at the close. AXIS Bank Ltd. (NS:AXBK) declined 3.06% or 14.70 points to end at 465.50 and State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) was down 2.39% or 4.80 points to 196.15.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 3.54% to 373.15, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was up 3.41% to settle at 221.65 and Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which gained 2.64% to close at 373.15.
The worst performers were ICICI Bank Ltd. (BO:ICBK) which was down 3.66% to 244.80 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 3.11% to settle at 465.50 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 2.17% to 196.50 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 749 to 668 and 81 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 413 fell and 403 advanced, while 38 ended unchanged.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.37% to 16.3525.
Gold for June delivery was up 0.29% or 3.60 to $1247.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.88% or 0.83 to hit $44.87 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 2.06% or 0.94 to trade at $46.52 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.02% to 66.456, while EUR/INR rose 0.26% to 75.2010.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.11% at 94.35.
