Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Energy, Clean Technology and REITs sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.04%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Kelt Exploration Ltd. (TO:KEL), which rose 9.42% or 0.500 points to trade at 5.810 at the close. Meanwhile, Secure Energy Services Inc . (TO:SES) added 8.06% or 0.69 points to end at 9.25 and MEG Energy Corp (TO:MEG) was up 8.05% or 0.47 points to 6.31 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were North West Company Inc . (TO:NWC), which fell 6.95% or 2.09 points to trade at 28.00 at the close. Detour Gold Corporation (TO:DGC) declined 6.36% or 2.10 points to end at 30.90 and New Gold Inc . (TO:NGD) was down 4.90% or 0.330 points to 6.400.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 651 to 459 and 170 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 1.70% to 13.76.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.57% or 7.65 to $1341.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 4.11% or 1.87 to hit $47.37 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 3.65% or 1.75 to trade at $49.73 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.28% to 0.7738, while CAD/EUR fell 0.43% to 0.6875.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.12% at 95.06.
