Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Electric Power, Consumption and Public Utilities sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 0.25%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Estacio Participacoes SA (SA:ESTC3), which rose 7.26% or 1.07 points to trade at 15.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Cia Energetica de Minas Gerais (SA:CMIG4) added 5.93% or 0.32 points to end at 5.72 and Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3) was up 5.76% or 0.62 points to 11.39 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3), which fell 2.97% or 0.81 points to trade at 26.44 at the close. Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5) declined 2.45% or 0.30 points to end at 11.94 and Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA:MRFG3) was down 2.39% or 0.14 points to 5.72.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 146 to 142 and 19 ended unchanged.
Shares in Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) fell to 52-week lows; falling 2.97% or 0.81 to 26.44.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.46% to 42.64.
Gold for August delivery was up 0.25% or 3.25 to $1301.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 4.13% or 1.91 to hit $48.12 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract rose 1.04% or 1.46 to trade at $141.18 .
USD/BRL was down 1.30% to 3.4209, while EUR/BRL fell 0.84% to 3.8579.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.52% at 94.28.
