Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Consumption, Industrials and Basic Materials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 0.17% to hit a new 52-week high.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were JBS SA (SA:JBSS3), which rose 7.36% or 0.81 points to trade at 11.82 at the close. Meanwhile, Kroton Educacional SA (SA:KROT3) added 5.50% or 0.800 points to end at 15.340 and Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) was up 4.25% or 0.170 points to 4.170 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tim Participacoes SA (SA:TIMP3), which fell 3.13% or 0.27 points to trade at 8.36 at the close. BR Malls Participacoes SA (SA:BRML3) declined 2.89% or 0.38 points to end at 12.77 and Vale SA (SA:VALE3) was down 2.63% or 0.48 points to 17.79.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 189 to 156 and 26 ended unchanged.
Shares in Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) rose to 52-week highs; rising 4.25% or 0.170 to 4.170.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 0.68% to 30.98.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.57% or 7.75 to $1341.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 4.09% or 1.86 to hit $47.36 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 0.12% or 0.18 to trade at $154.77 .
USD/BRL was up 0.75% to 3.2171, while EUR/BRL rose 0.93% to 3.6216.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.12% at 95.06.
